Xargon: Beyond Reality is a 1993 video game produced by Epic MegaGames where we play as Malvineous Havershim who must journey through strange landscapes as he seeks to destroy the evil Xargon. This game was programmed by Allen Pilgrim, it uses the same scrolling game engine as Jill of the Jungle. Joe Hitchens created the graphics for this game, just as he did for Jill of the Jungle.

Malvineous Havershim is an archaeologist studying strange ruins in Madagascar. The ruins were built by an unknown ancient culture known as the 'Blue Builders'. While attempting to translate the glyphs on the walls of one Blue Builder structure, a strange gas is emitted, and Malvineous loses consciousness.

Malvineous then has a dream-encounter with a talking eagle, who gives him cryptic warnings. He awakes in a strange land, the area in which the game takes place.

Some elements are inspired by other games, like the gift boxes that fall from the sky, or the collecting of letters (Duke Nukem), or the overhead map from Vinyl Goddess from Mars. But there are also cool original things like the ability to change into a bee, or to enter the water in the Submersible Underwater Pod, or S.U.P.

Overal this game features decent gameplay, excellent and original graphics, but in the end it just feels too much like you're playing a Jill of the Jungle sequel.
